What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is another word for root canal treatment and is the branch of dentistry concerning dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth.

Endodontic treatment, or root canal treatment, treats the soft pulp tissue inside the tooth.

How do I know if I need root canal treatment?

Dental pain can occur from the tooth or from the gums in general, when it originates from the tooth it could be a sign you need root canal treatment.

We examine your teeth and take a history of your dental pain.

Does root canal treatment hurt?

No for most people root canal treatment does not hurt, we use strong local an aesthetics to numb the area. For some people who have extremely inflamed nerves we may mange the pain differently.

How long does root canal treatment last?

Studies show root canal treatment can last for 8-10 years. We have seen root canal treatments last for longer periods of time and shorter periods of time depending on the tooth and how well it is looked after.

After root canal treatment will I need a crown or onlay?

Studies show that for back teeth you are six times more likely to loose the tooth if there is not an onlay or crown provided afterwards. Your dentist will discuss this with you before treatment.
